| LITHGOW WAR MEMORIAL OLYMPIC SWIMMING POOL
The Lithgow War Memorial Olympic Swimming Pool complex is open for public use from 7.00am to 7.00pm Monday to Fridays, and from 8.00am to 7.00pm Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays, from the beginning of October until late April each year. These hours may vary, at the discretion of the Pool Manager, with factors including warmer weather, substantial patronage at closing time, suitable lighting, safety and supervision requirements being available, or to permit the conduct of aquatic competition and / or training.
Kiosk facilities are available on site, and whilst food and drinks are permitted to be taken into the Pool Complex, the use of glass containers is prohibited. Consumption of alcohol on site is prohibited, and the entire Pool Complex is deemed a “No Smoking Zone”.
The complex facilities include:
- One (1) heated main pool (50 metres in length with 8 lanes and ramp access, varying in depth from 1 metre to 1.8 metres);
- Kiosk, barbeque area, and open grass areas (including shaded areas);
- Separate Male and Female Change Rooms, with heated shower facilities;
- First Aid Room and Pool Manager’s Office;
- Clubhouse (currently leased by the Lithgow Swimming Club);
- Pump house and machinery room, and heater room; and
- Ample parking facilities.
Due to the commencement of construction of Stage 1 of the Lithgow Aquatic Centre Development, the Toddler and Wading Pools are unavailable for use during the 2011 / 2012 season. These works do not impact on the availability of the 50 metre Olympic Pool, however patrons need to be aware that the shallowest depth of water in this Pool is 1.1 metres
These attributes provide the facility with the capacity to efficiently cater for regional school carnivals, provide a clean and heated aquatic recreation centre, as well as the ability to promote the benefits of a well managed, operated and maintained facility. Council also benefits from a solid relationship with key users, including the Lithgow Swimming Club, NSW Communities (Department of Sport and Recreation), local and regional schools, and local swimming instructors.
The facility is predominately utilised for aquatic recreational activities by the general public, the Lithgow Swimming Club for competition and training, district primary and secondary schools for annual carnivals, learn to swim programmes and life saving schools, as well as by NSW Communities (Department of Sport and Recreation) for the conduct of their Swimsafe programmes. The complex caters for aquatic regional consumers in the Lithgow and surrounding districts, with other facilities in the area being the Portland Swimming Pool, the Lithgow District Hospital Hydrotherapy pool, the Katoomba Aquatic Centre and local lakes and dams.
The complex is a Council owned and operated facility, and is managed under the control of a Council employed Pool Manager, who has the support of numerous Pool Attendants (both casual and permanent).
Council is committed to consideration of community needs with recommendations on suggested amendments and / or improvements to the structure or facility, review of the business plan (including amendments and / or improvements to the management and / or operation of the facility) and co-ordinating the use of community funding to improve the facility and further benefit the community.
The utilisation of the complex for special events is actively encouraged by Council, with the view to increasing customer base, whilst being cost effective and recouping expenses incurred during these event.
