Residents are also requested to separate building waste, green waste, steel and putrescible waste at the Landfills. Appropriate signage is provided at these facilities to provide guidance.
Also, residents are reminded that used motor vehicle tyres must be taken to the Lithgow Landfill and scavenging is not permitted at Councils Landfills. Persons found scavenging will be subject to an on-the-spot-fine.
Proposed Central Waste Facility
As current landfills are nearing the end of their life, Council has commissioned an Environmental impact Statement for the development of a new Central Waste Facility on the site of the old Western Main Colliery at Blackmans Flat.
The Central Waste Facility will only provide for the disposal of waste that is generated from within the boundaries of the Lithgow Local Government Area.
Upon the approval and full operation of this facility, all landfills will close. Landfill closures will be staggered according to a priority list.
Transfer Stations
Council currently operates three transfer stations at the following locations. Only household domestic waste is able to be disposed of at these facilities.
