Temporary Closure of Geordie Street Crossing |
|
Repairs to Geordie Street Crossing will be undertaken shortly to ensure the ongoing stability of the crossing. Following several recent inspections evidence of some structural damage to the deck of the Geordie Street Crossing was identified. Works will be carried out to find out the cause of the problem and also any necessary rectification work that will be required to ensure that the crossing is stable and safe for vehicle users. Lithgow City Council Deputy Mayor, Councillor Howard Fisher said “the Geordie Street Crossing between Geordie Street and Barton Street will be closed from Monday the 16 January 2012 till Sunday 22 January 2012”. Councillor Fisher said that the current crossing has served the community well especially considering the heavy use that it receives and the amount and velocity of water that it has to deal with. “This work will be done as expeditiously as possible and if the road crossing can be open prior to 22 January 2012, this will certainly be undertaken”. “There will be a short term inconvenience for users of this particular crossing however the work is essential to ensure the integrity and the future stability of the crossing at this location” concluded Councillor Fisher. |
