Celebrating Community and Citizenship on Australia Day at Eskbank House and Museum

Eskbank House and Museum will host the official Lithgow Australia Day Ceremony on 26 January 2012 followed by a relaxing program of music and entertainment in the delightful grounds of the museum.

“The official Australia Day Ceremony is about recognising our local community achievements and welcoming new citizens to Lithgow,“ said Deputy Mayor Howard Fisher.

The Lithgow community is invited to join Mayor Neville Castle and Australia Day Ambassador Vanessa Crisp at 8.30am for tea, coffee and damper followed by the official Australia Day Ceremony at 9.00am. Vanessa Crisp will give the official Australia day address and Mayor Neville Castle will present the Local Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year Awards. The ceremony will end with the Citizen Pledge by our newest citizens and the opportunity for the whole audience to participate in an affirmation of their loyalty to Australia.

Following the official ceremonies, guests can relax on the lawn under the trees and listen to a classical music concert with the Lithgow City Orchestra, the Lithgow Pipe Band and local young violinist, Nancy Ismay.

The Lithgow Vintage Motor Club and the Bathurst Historic Car Club will then hold an exhibition of vintage and historic cars on the museum lawns and the Lithgow Line Dancers will entertain the crowd with a sequence of catchy steps at 1.30pm.

There will be free entry to Eskbank House and Museum on the day, including to a display of paintings from Lithgow City Council’s Art Collection in the courtyard gallery.

“Eskbank is the heart and home of industry in Lithgow and an integral part of our heritage. It is the perfect location to celebrate our community’s achievements and enjoy our national day,” said Deputy Mayor, Howard Fisher.

“Don’t forget to bring a hat and sunscreen, plenty of water and a picnic lunch to enjoy the day to the fullest”.

Further Australia Day events will occur on the day at Lithgow Pool starting at 11.00am and at Wallerawang and Portland. Visit Council’s website www.lithgow.nsw.gov.au for details.
