The Lithgow Flash Gift is a professional athletics carnival and will see athletes invited from all over Australia. Races are to be conducted under a handicap system to give an even chance for all competitors of winning. “The Lithgow Flash Gift” is named for Mrs Marjorie Jackson-Nelson, The Lithgow Flash, who during her athletic career won two Olympic gold medals (Helsinki 1952) and seven Commonwealth Games gold medals.

The feature race of the day will be the Centennial Coal Lithgow Flash® Gift for women; this event attracts some of the fastest sprinters in Australia.

The 2014 Lithgow Flash® Carnival will see return of the Coal Services 5 kilometre Valley Challenge for teams and individual with $2,000 of prize money on offer. Prizes are given for the First Male and First Female Team. Individuals can compete in this event and prizes are given for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the open and junior categories. Junior category is 16 years of age and younger. (Age turning in 2014).  Each entrant will receive two Runner’s World Magazines

The GHD Zig Zag Mile will have Open and Masters categories with a total prize pool of $2,000. There will be prize money for 1st 2nd and 3rd places in Open and Masters Categories. Open - Junior to 35 years of age, Masters over 35 (Age turning in 2014). Each entrant will receive two Runner’s World Magazines.

Registration for the Coal Services Valley Challenge, the GHD Zig Zag Mile and the junior races are open to anyone and you don’t need to be a member of a club.
